Boko Haram Kingpin Shot Dead In Adamawa

The Internal joint Army-Police security "operation restore sanity", scored a major breakthrough in Adamawa State, as one of the key commanders of the Boko Haram, believed to be Abubakar Yola, alias ABU JIHAD was killed in a shoot-out

with security operatives in the early hours of Monday, in Mubi town.

Also arrested were 156 persons, four are believed to be top unit commanders of the sect involved in the recent bombings of MTN, GLOBACOM and AIRTELL communications base station masts a couple of weeks ago.

The security operatives also rescued five women and six children in the house which was being used as their main ammunitions dump.

Conducting pressmen round the enclave, Monday, the Brigade commander of 23rd Armoured Brigade, Brig. Gen. John Nwoaga, accompanied by the police commissioner and the director of state security services, said the kingpin, was shot in a firefight with his men, while resisting arrest.

He said over 300 improvised explosive devices already primed,25 assorted brands of rifles, mostly brand new AK 47 submachine guns were recovered. Other items recovered were over 2000 daggers, swords, bows and poisoned arrows.

Also recovered were a huge quantity of bomb making devices which was stored at the large compound situated at Shagari Low Cost Housing, Mubi.

He stated that security was compelled to impose a 24 hour security cordon around the town for the last two days before they could track down the sect members.

Nwoaga appealed to the traditional rulers and community leaders to advise their people to keep peace and report suspicious persons to the security agencies.

He also stressed that bomb explosions do not discriminate along tribal or religious divide.

Mubi town, which is  about one hour drive, from Maiduguri and one and half hour drive from Damaturu in Yobe State, is major base of the Boko Haram, in Adamawa State. Only two weeks ago, about five base station masts of some GSM companies were bombed
