The Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi has cried out to the federal government and other well-meaning Nigerians to come to his assistance by proffering solution to the present effect of flood that has dealt a devastating blow to some local government in Anambra state.
The governor who toured the local governments that were badly hit by the floods made this special call with an overwhelming concern over the affected local governments like Ayamelu, Ogbaru, Anambra west and Anambra East.
Governor Obi who was supposed to travelling to Mexico today had immediately shifted his trip, stating that if as a leader, he does not take such decision; it then means that he is not sensitive to the plight of his people.
According to Obi,”The only trip I am disposed to undertake for now is answering calls to come for aid for the affected communities or for discussions on how to mitigate the suffering of those affected”
Obi had arranged different meetings with the community heads in some of the affected communities he visited on how to stop the flood that has taken over the different communities. Apart from the directives given to his cabinet members on distribution of relief materials to the affected communities, Obi has also given further directives that the affected people be relocated as soon as possible.
“We have not borrowed a dime or raised bond, but the crisis we are facing now is better seen than explained. We will continue to do everything possible to see that our people are taken care of even if it means borrowing this time around”, Obi said.
The governor visited some camps in Agbara, where some women were working under the directive of the state government, as they were seen coking and distributing food and other relief materials to the affected people.
