Accountancy Student to Die By Hanging for Murder

A  Delta State High Court sitting at Warri has sentenced one Eto Ufuoma to death by hanging having found him guilty of the murder of one Julius Oforofuo in June 2000.

The convict, Eto Ufuoma who claimed to be a National Diploma student of the Federal Polytechnic, Oko in company of two others was said to have gone to the deceased’s house located opposite the Isoko South Local Government Secretariat to forcefully demand for a pair of canvass shoes allegedly kept in the deceased’s custody by the convict’s elder brother.
The late Julius Oforofuo  refusal to release the pair of shoes earned him an attack but the rift was settled by neighbours who pleaded with the convict for calm.

However, dissatisfied after the morning fight, the convict staged a comeback in the evening  and reportedly stabbed the deceased in a public bathroom severally with a broken bottle in different parts of his body. The deceased was consequently  confirmed dead as at the time he was rushed to the Oleh General Hospital for medical attention.

The unfortunate incident almost sparked off a communal crisis between Ozoro and Oleh where the late Oforofuo  and Ufuoma Eto hailed from respectively but for the timely intervention of the traditional rulers of both communities and other well meaning individuals from the area.

Justice Marshall Mukoro of High Court 1, Warri while delivering his judgement found Eto Paul Ufuoma guilty of the charge of murder and sentenced him to death by hanging, the mandatory punishment for the offence while the 2nd and 3rd accused persons, one Samson Edorh and Akpoghene Edeno were discharged and acquitted by the Court for lack of sufficient evidence linking the duo to the offence by prosecution.
