About four persons believed to be friends have been feared dead and seven others seriously injured, when gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen stormed a local bar popularly called Burukutu at Gindin Akwati in Gashish district of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The gunmen were said to have stormed the joint and opened fire on the people drinking inside, which included the four friends.
However, the seven persons injured were taken to the state General Hospital in Jos, where they are currently receiving treatment.
A source in the area said the bar was attacked late Sunday night.
Confirming the incident, the spokesman of the state Police Command, Mr. Emmanuel Abuh, said the police got the report of the attack Monday morning.
He said: “One Mr Ali Iliya of Gashe village lodged a report at the police station at Barkin Ladi that there was an attack in a drinking spot, and our men swung into action, but before they got to the scene of the attack the assailants had escaped.”
Abuh said investigation was, however, ongoing but added that no arrest had been made.
He called on residence of the locality to remain calm.
Meanwhile, in a bid to strengthen the inter-ethnic relations and stem the spate violence among ethnic groups in the state Governor, Jonah Jang, has approved the appointments of Senior Special Assistants on Community Relations.
Those appointed are Mr. Akazamus Anakwe (Igbo), Mr. Austin Iyere (South-south), Mr. Lawal Ishaq (Hausa), Mallam Salihu Musa Umar (Fulani) and Mr. Tunde Oladapo (Yoruba).
A statement signed by the Director of Press to the Governor, Mr. James Mannok, said: “The appointments are to also further broaden participation of all platonians in the governance of the state.”
